Subletting - A Case Study

A short stroll from Whipsiderry Beach and magnificent Cornish coastal walks. Rooms with a view. And plenty of room to invite friends down to stay. When Linda Storr first walked into her new holiday home at Newquay View she knew instantly it was just what she’d been looking for… and it’s now providing her with a source of income, too.

Linda wanted to have a base in Newquay after her sons moved down to the area from their native northeast. She looked around a number of holiday sites before finding exactly what she was looking for at Peter Bull’s Newquay View resort.

She says: “Straight away I said oh, Porth – definitely. It’s just out of town a bit and it’s not in your face. And as soon as I walked into the van I said ‘This is the one’. I love everything about it – especially the big tree next to it. I love that tree because it gives you shade when it gets really hot and you can just sit there in the shade on the balcony with your glass of wine and it’s so peaceful.”

Linda made good use of the 12-month season and says she was very impressed by the facilities and really felt part of the friendly community there. “There’s a huge swimming pool. Not just a fun pool but a proper full size one,” she says, “And there’s a sauna and steam room and a café just as you go in. And I thought wow, I’ll use that! Then there’s The Venue with entertainment in the summer and in the winter it’s like a little club where the homeowners meet up for a chat and a drink.”

Linda in Newquay with Otto
Subletting

Linda currently lives in Cleethorpes but still regularly pops down to Newquay whenever she can. Catching the plane with friends from Doncaster is just an hour and ten minute trip and when Linda visits with her dog, Otto, she takes the train.

Last year, she decided that subletting her Newquay pad was the right choice for her. She says: “I can just book out when I want to come down and that’s my time. And then it’s really easy – I don’t do anything! The team on site do all the booking and cleaning and provide all the bed linen and towels. It’s sort of my home so I like to know everything’s okay, but the team are really informative and ring me if there’s anything wrong or any questions. There is a commission payable on the rental income as well as a changeover fee, but it’s worth it for me. I still get to use it too – so it’s the best of both worlds.”
