Local attractions

Widemouth Fields boasts a secluded location but close to many local attractions

Beaches

Just one mile done the road from your holiday home is the beautiful open sands of Widemouth Bay.  When the tide is out there are lots of rockpools to explore and the bay is also good for surfing.  You will find free parking at either end of the beach and dogs are welcome throughout the year at the southern end of the beach.  Nearby is lovely Crackington Haven which is predominantly shingle but sheltered by some of the highest cliffs in Cornwall and has some great walks to the other coves along the coastline.

Shopping

Widemouth is conveniently located just outside of Bude so major supermarkets such as Morrisons, Lidl and Sainsburys are close at hand but Bude also has some fantastic independent shops.

A popular family resort and winner of the Best Coastal Resort for two years in a row, the town centre has some lovely shops and has plenty of easy parking making a trip in to town quick and easy.  The wharf shopping area has a regular farmers' market and some fantastic artisan shops. If you are looking for some local art to display in your holiday home this is the place to come.  The High Street has a few familiar brands but also independent souvenir and surf shops for you to enjoy.

Bars and Restaurants

Widemouth Bay is the home of casual beach bars and laid back cafes and tearooms. Widemouth bay cafe has beautiful views over the beach and serves great breakfasts, burgers and lunches.  The Break Beach Bar at the Beach House B and B has that perfect chilled out vibe, serving locally sourced sustainable food, craft beers and cocktails and showcasing local live music.  Or for something more formal visit Widemouth Manor which has spectacular sunset views.

Harbours and Villages

Widemouth is ideally located for visiting some of Cornwall's historical fishing harbours and villages.  Tintagel and Boscastle are within easy reach and the famous Port Issac is only a short drive away where you can enjoy beautiful harbour views, locally landed fresh seafood and a bit of star spotting too!

The village of Alturnun, made famous by Daphne du Maurier's Jamaica Inn is also a short drive away and has some lovely historical aspects to enjoy.  From Widemouth Fields you can also visit the moorland villages of Blisland and St. Breward which boast traditional Cornish pubs and are the starting point for some lovely moorland walks.

History Heritage and Culture

Widemouth and the surrounding area has plenty to offer in the way of history, heritage and culture and has some less well known sites to discover.  From historic buildings such as Poundstock Gildhouse and the 13th Century Penhallam Manor to the romantic Hawker's Hut at Morwenstow, there is plenty of Cornish history to explore.  Widemouth also provides rich heritage through nearby castles including magical Tintagel, Bude Castle and Heritage Centre, plus other forts sited nearby.   Nearby Bude has a passionate artistic community too and Bude Arts and Music (BAM) ensure there is plenty going on from local music to film clubs, festivals and more.  We are also lucky to have the Rebel cinema, very close to Widemouth Fields which is a small, traditional cinema showing the latest releases.

Golf Courses

Widemouth has two golf courses close by.  The Bude and North Cornwall Golf Club offers a challenging 18 hole links course and boasts exceptional drainage lending itself to year round playing.

There is also the Ivyleaf Golf Course and Driving Range nearby which has some spectacular views from its 9 hole parkland course.  The Ivyleaf also offers a covered floodlit driving range and practice greens.

Walks & Bike Rides

The local area is brilliant for walks and bike rides through the countryside and along the coast.  Widemouth Bay is just over a mile from the Holiday Park and you can take circular walk to Bude via Phillip's Point Nature Reserve and an the Storm Tower at Compass Point.

Route 32 of the National Cycle Network runs from Bude to Padstow or Bude Cycle Hire suggest a number of lovely routes which take in 5 - 6 miles of riding through local countryside or coastal routes.  Alternatively head to Wenfordbridge to start the Camel Trail all the way to Bodmin or Padstow.

Gardens

Widemouth is convenient for both Devon and Cornwall so you can explore the gardens of both counties. Close by is Docton Mill Gardens which is a 9 acre site set around the watercourse that runs through the garden, out to the spectacular Atlantic Coast. The nearby Hartland Abbey also has gardens surrounding the 12th century building which you can visit.  In Cornwall you are spoiled for choice with the Eden Project, Lost Gardens of Heligan and National trust gardens such as Trebah to discover.

Family Friendly Attractions

There is plenty to do in and around Bude for all the family, whatever the weather! Open all year round, Harlequinns Leisure Centre offers entertainment for all the family with one of the biggest indoor playzones in the South West and a tenpin bowling alley. For a family day out filled with space-themed adventures, head to North Devon’s Milky Way theme park. Ride the Cosmic Typhoon roller coaster, go wild on the assault courses and slides inside the indoor play area, and kick back to watch some amazing magic shows and animal displays. The adventure awaits!

Spas and Wellbeing

Bude has some great spas to choose from for pampering treatments or spa experience days from exclusive spa locations with the addition of pools, sauna and steam rooms; or local businesses offering pamper treatments such as massage or beauty therapies.  It is easy to find somewhere where you can completely chill out whilst visiting your holiday home.

North Devon

Bude is right on the border of Cornwall and Devon so a holiday home at Bude Holiday Resort puts you within easy reach of beautiful North Devon too. You can explore the picturesque village of Clovelly, visit the dramatic scenery of Hartland Point, hang out at surfer's paradise: Croyde, explore the winding streets of Appledore, book a visit to Lundy Island or visit the popular towns of Bideford and Barnstaple.
